As the days pass, information from Tibet becomes more clear and detailed: twenty-three monks were killed; nine with serious injuries are in the hospital; around forty have a range of injuries that are being treated on site as best as possible. Structural damage on all the remaining buildings has been confirmed, so they will have to be taken down before reconstruction can begin.

The monks continue to search through the ruins. Many of the clay and wooden statues have collapsed but the seven large metal Buddhas reveal only minor damage. Texts are being retrieved from the institute for higher Buddhist studies, and the large Buddha statue there has been pulled out. As they move across the land of their former home, the monks walk carefully to avoid the fissures that have opened up in the earth.

In Hong Kong, Thrangu Rinpoche is conducting a course on the transference of consciousness at death and also discussing with his senior monks the next steps to take in Tibet. Under consideration is moving the monastery to a new and safer site. Whatever decision is made, financial support will be needed to reconstruct the monastery and any donations toward the project will be greatly appreciated.

Kindly take note that the Namo Buddha Buddhist Society in Sibu, Sarawak is organizing a 1,000 people dinner at the Bangunan Dato Seri Lim Bock Seng, SRJKC Sungei Way Petaling Jaya on the 23^rd of May 2010. The purpose is to raise funds for the Qinghai Earthquake.

We applaud their compassion but to avoid any confusion, we would like to inform the public  thatThrangu Dharma Society (Petaling Jaya) are not at all consulted or are involved in any way in the organization  of this project. The mention of Thrangu Dharma Society Petaling Jaya in their sponsorship form is misleading.

The Bank Account Stated therein are not the bank account of Thrangu Dharma Society Petaling Jaya designated for the “Qinghai Yushu Earthquake Relief Funds”.

Thrangu Dharma Society Petaling Jaya will continue to promote the Qinghai Yushu Earthquake Relief Funds which was launched since 14th of April 2010.

On the 18^th of April 2010 the Malaysian Buddhist Haiti Disaster Relief Group organized a fund raising program for the Earthquake Victims of Haiti. The Chief Reverend Saranankara Nayaka Maha Thera, on hearing of the Earthquake in Qinghai made an announcement at the Concert “Sound Of Compassion” of the calamity in Qinghai. 

Within minutes donation boxes were passed around the guests and patrons who attended the Concert and within a span of 5 minutes a sum of RM 15,000/- was collected. Thrangu Dharma Society Petaling Jaya the organizers of the Qinghai Yushu Earthquake Relief Funds were invited to a presentation of the sum of money for the said funds, on the 25^th of April 2010.

On behalf of Lodro Nyima Rinpoche, the Chief Abbot of Thrangu Monastery, Yushu Qinghai, we would like to humbly thank not only the Chief Reverend for his generosity but also to the Musical Group and crew of “Sound of Compassion” without which this opportunity to raise the funds would not have been created.
